Giovanni Segantini (1858-1899)I WANT TO SEE MY MOUNTAINS

29 April - 16 August 2026

From April 29 to August 16, 2026, the Musée Marmottan Monet presents the first monographic exhibition in Paris dedicated to Giovanni Segantini, a major figure of Symbolism and European Divisionism. Bringing together around sixty works—paintings, pastels, and drawings—it retraces the remarkable trajectory of an artist who made Alpine landscapes the core of a quest that was both aesthetic and spiritual. From Lombardy in Italy to Switzerland’s Engadine Valley, Segantini captured the power of nature and revealed its symbolic dimension, far beyond realism.

He dreamed of exhibiting in Paris at the time of the 1900 World’s Fair, a project cut short by his premature death in 1899. More than a century later, this exhibition, curated by Gabriella Belli and Diana Segantini, finally pays tribute to his visionary gaze and his unique way of bringing humanity and nature into dialogue, with striking modernity.

Echoing this retrospective, a selection of works by Anselm Kiefer entitled Voglio vedere le mie montagne, in homage to Segantini, will also be presented to the public.
